What is hospice?

Hospice is a comprehensive, specialized healthcare approach for people living with life-limiting illnesses. Services are customized for each patient, whether in a person’s home, assisted living residence, nursing facility, or hospital. The services and where they are provided are the choice of the patient and the family.

Services

Services may include:

Nursing Care

Our expert nurses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure patient comfort and to support families.

Equipment & Supplies

Our team orders the durable medical equipment and disposable supplies to maximize comfort.

Medical Management

Our medical director works with the patient’s attending physician to provide optimal symptom management.

Levels of Care

Our partner facilities provide short-term inpatient care if intensive intervention or caregiver relief is needed.

Personal Care

Our certified nursing assistants help families and facilities with care such as bathing and dressing.

Medical Social Work

Our social workers focus on the practical and emotional experiences of living with a life-limiting illness.

Medications

Our partner pharmacy delivers medications related to the hospice diagnosis to patients’ homes.

Spiritual Support

Our chaplains offer non-denominational, non-judgmental care for patients, families, and facilities.

Who pays for the services?

Hospice services are covered by Medicare and Medical Assistance. In addition, most commercial insurance policies offer a hospice care benefit. Bethany provides hospice services regardless of the patient's ability to pay.

How does it work?

Bethany works with the patient, caregivers, medical staff, pastoral guides and other care providers to develop a plan of care to affirm life and provide guidance and support. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care to help our patients achieve the most comfort and dignity possible. We provide care and support to our patients and to their families and caregivers.

Who provides care?

Our hospice team consists of our medical director, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, volunteers, chaplains and bereavement care specialists. Other therapies are offered as needed.
